By leveraging traditional cooperative networks—particularly in states with robust pre-independence cooperative histories like Kerala—the government aims to formalize and scale micro-enterprises run by women self-help groups (SHGs). This approach addresses systemic supply chain bottlenecks by bridging the gap between rural producers and urban consumers through streamlined procurement, processing, branding, and retail distribution. Operationally, the initiative utilizes institutional mechanisms such as the National Cooperative Consumers' Federation (NCCF) to provide market linkages. Setting up specialized retail storefronts like 'Shee Marts' bypasses intermediaries, ensuring higher profit margins for rural women artisans and micro-entrepreneurs. Furthermore, integrating these micro-enterprises with national supply chains ensures sustainable income generation, thereby directly contributing to poverty alleviation and women-led rural economic development.
